Vinyl Album Covers Knowledge Base

If you used vinyl album covers to hang on the wall, which 5 would you pick? Say you were wanting to do a display to represent your musical taste---which album covers would you consider ESSENTIAL? I really don't care how many but, try to keep it under 10.
what is the best way to clean vinyl albums and album covers? I want to sell many old albums and they are a little dingy and dusty. I think they would sell faster if they were cleaned up, but I don't want to damage them.
How would you hang vinyl album covers on a wall without nails? I'm trying to hang some of my vinyl albums up on my wall in their covers. Ideally, they will be hung side by side along the length of the wall. I've purchased several long u-shaped metal strips in hopes to create a sort of shelf to hold the albums in but am looking for a way to mount these strips without damaging the wall. Because I am doing this in a dorm room, nails are not an option and the several types of 3m picture hanging adhesives I've tried don't seem to be strong enough to support the weight. If anyone has any other non-damaging adhesives in mind or any other suggestions on how to hang these albums, I would greatly appreciate it.
Where can i find album covers? I would like a website that sells vinyl record album covers. i want the things that the records come in when you buy them. i want to buy them without the records in them. i want to hang them on my wall.
What are some awesome album covers that are boring on CDs? for example, the vinyl cover for Sticky Fingers has a zipper, The cover of Zeppelin III has that thing that spins around and changes the picture can you think any more? or albums that came with cool stuff, like the Cheech & Chong album that came with a giant rolling paper?
Does anyone have an album on vinyl? all I need is the measurements of your vinyl album COVER! I'm doing a birthday gift for my music loving boyfriend, and it's going to be encased in a thing that looks like an album cover. I just need the dimensions. :c don't have any myself! thanks!
Suggestions about cool album covers? I'm framing old vinyl album covers on my bedroom wall. I already have Revolver, Led Zeppelin I, 1984, Rubber Soul and For Those About to Rock. I need to find one more and I need suggestions Keep the suggestions strictly classic rock
Rear Vinyl album Art? Does anyone know where I might find pictures of the BACK of vinyl album covers? Specifically, "Johnny Rivers (album) ...and I know you wanna dance" long playing record cover. The back of it. I remember it had a picture of some guy wearing a "Batman" symbol shirt with headphones. If you know of a site where I could see it, please respond. Thank you for your time.
How do you go about finding 33 1/3 rpm vinyl record & album cover collectors? These albums--and this is just a snippet-- include everything from classic and arena rock 'n roll to Alabama to Black Sabbath, Andy Warhol's "Sticky Fingers" Stones album & cover, Triumph, Grand Funk Railroad, Hendrix's 1st album, The Who and the list goes on and on and on. I would like to be able to email a few of the collectors in order to get a basic idea of what criteria needs to be met for a collector. I'd also like to learn how to appraise an album and its cover. I know there is a website that has a "pay" appraisal service. I found the following tonight in a press release: Forever Vinyl offers an appraisal service. They can be reached at 848-333-8899 or their site at http://www.forevervinyl.com There are just too many albums and I fear the appraisal cost would be astronomical. Is there a book/magazine published that would give estimates of albums and their covers? Would Ebay be a good starting place and/or would it give me a basis to go on? I know a local record store that would buy it as a bundle but isn't selling individually a better route to go even though it may be more work? Thank you for reading and answering my questions. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input; again, thank you so very much.
Does anyone know were to get record covers? Does anyone know a website that i can buy vinyl record album covers. Im looking for the things the albums come it. i want to hang them up on my wall.
Looking for a picture of an album cover with a man wearing a polka dot shirt from 50s, 60's, 70s, or 80s? It was a vinyl album cover with this guy wearing a Polka Dot shirt or the back ground might have been polka dot. I don't remember. Some one please help me with this. It only had the one guy on it and he was the singer.
Mould on old vinyl albums, sleeves and covers; how do I clean them up? I have a collection of my father's old vinyls, classical music and some jazz, but since they've been in storage for 20 year or so I'm afraid they've acquired a lot of mould. I'd like to clean them up, either myself or get it done professionally. I'm looking for strategies to get that done, so I can get them home to enjoy them.
What is your favorite Rolling Stones album (yes vinyl) cover and why? Including three dimensial. Sorry, I meant to say dimensioanal. I cannot believe that not one person mentioned "Their Satanic Majestys Request" with the 3-D cover.
Displaying vinyl album art? I'm a novice record collector... as in, I recently purchased one and decided I want to get more, hahah. I have the Beatles' album "Hey Jude", which, as far as I know, is actually the only one never to be released in CD format. Interesting, huh? Well, my mom recently sent me a frame so I can hang the art on the wall - it's in ridiculously good condition for how old it is. I'd love to display the album cover, but my question is, what do I do with the record inside? I'm going to buy a record player with my roommate soon, and I'd love to be able to play the music - to me, music just sounds so much better on vinyl than on disc or via the computer. So, album art collectors: if you choose to put your art on display in frames, what do you do with the records so they are still readily available to be listened to? Let me know!
The Coolest Album Cover of all Time ? I'm not talking LITTLE CD covers....actual vinyl album covers. What are your favs?
How can I print god sized album covers for my wall? I was wondering if it was at all possible to print out Vinyl (record, LP, etc)-cover sized album art, intended to be stuck on my wall as decorative posters. The pictures would need to be of good quality and on good quality paper. I am at a loss at how to do it, and I'm really hoping someone here could give me some tips or links to places where I could get it done. Thanks for any help :) Oops I meant "good sized"... And also, I don't want to be spending huge amounts of cash in this process. I expect to spend a bit but I don't have loads to work with here :(
Is it just me, or does Birth Control have the most disturbing album covers? I can't even post them on here, they're so offensive. Fortunately, the music on the vinyl circles IN the covers is good, but the covers themselves are nauseating. Just look up Hoodoo Man and Operation. I guess my real question here is, uh...what bands have the most repulsive album covers? If you can (without getting reported), post links to them. Yeah, I know what the covers of Load and Reload are. I didn't catch onto it until about the 40th observation, but still. I'm not saying the covers should be banned, or anything. That would be ridiculous.
What is your favorite CD (or vinyl) in which the album cover is also a fold-out poster? BQ: What is your favorite album liner notes or booklet? BQ2: How organized is your music collection? (such as if there's a bunch of broken and empty CD cases all over the place or all organized) For me, I think it's Pearl Jam's Ten. I can't really think of anything. I'll have to say The Strokes' First Impressions of Earth's booklet was pretty well designed. My music collection makes me even more of a neat-freak. I have all my albums, EPs, singles, vinyls, DVDS, box sets and everything else in between seperated and alphabetized. I even go as far as only touching the sides of CD cases in case I get fingerprints of them. @The Hand That Feeds: Yeah, I don't know why I make the disks right-side up too.
I have Elton John Captain Fantastic vinyl album and I'm trying to find somewhere I can get it valued.? I live near Cessnock in the Hunter Valley and don't know of any place around here. Its still in the original cover even has the price sticker on the back (6.95) also have original Rock of the Westies.
How much is my (red vinyl) 'Hemispheres' album by Rush worth? The cover is in acceptable condition, but the vinyl itself is in near mint condition, unmarked and no visible or audible defections.
ACDC Album (Vinyl) What's it worth ? "Who Made Who" soundtrack from the film "Maximum Overdrive" based on the Stephen King novel "Trucks". 33 1/3 rpm Vinyl Album from 1986 In original outer cover (no cellophane) in good condition. Should I sell it or keep it? MWould you buy it ?
Anyone Ever Heard Vinyl Records On A Decent System? I have a vinyl record addiction, I just love the things and spend most of my time listening to them. It's like a time warp, I go to a store like Half Price Books. Buy some, take them home and wash them thoroughly, let them dry and sit back and listen. It is just amazing how good these things sound, I can't listen to Cd's, Mp3's any more they just sound awful compared to the room filling natural sound of a good vinyl album. Some of those album covers are a work of art, I can listen to records I had when I was younger and enjoy them much more. The other benefit is they are so cheap to buy. Anyone else have this interest?
What would be the possible value of a 1985 Chicago Bears Superbowl Shuffle 12-inch vinyl album today? The vinyl record is unsealed and has been played about 10 to 15 times over the past 20 years. It is in the original cover with pictures of the 1985 Chicago Bears Superbowl Team, including Walter Payton, Jim McMahon, William Perry and Richard Dent (among others), as well as the lyrics to the song, "Super Bowl Shuffle". There are no scratches or fingerprints on this album.
The Beatles: any1 know which vinyl album has a pic of George in a cowboy hat on the back cover? Any links to this would be welcome: I have found the front covers on loads of sites but none of the back covers Lace -thanx but no, that isn't it :-( He is standing with his hands in his pockets, if I remember right...

How to remove medical tape from album cover? I just bought an old vinyl copy of Sgt. Peppers, but it has a strip of white medical tape across the top of it. How can I remove this without damaging the album cover

I Need to know if a copy of Beastie Boys "Licensed to Ill" & Beatles "White Album" are valuable collectibles? I just got the record. The jacket is almost immaculate & the record is virtually scratch free; in other words, very good condition. Near the vinyls center label, where the matrix # usually is, is "master copy" instead? Do I have something unique, valuable, and a collectors item? If so, what websites, aside from ebay, can help me find out its value? And about the Beatles "White Album," it has a gold pressing stamp on the album cover, about #350,000-ish. The letters of "White Album" are embossed. Album cover & vinyl are both in very good condition. Also need to know how rare & collectible, and where I can find out their value. If anyone knows about what their value is, that would be a great help. Thanks!
Has anyone had any luck cleaning termite mud/waste from vinyl records? What can be used? Anything? Nothing? I found a box of vinyl records from the 60's,70's and 80's, unfortunately, the termites found them long before I did. They ate most of the cardboard album covers, and left their residue all over the records. I am sure this has happened to others...did you make an attempt at cleaning, did you have any luck with anything at all? Looking pretty bleak for these old treasures.

Any one collect heavy metal vinyl records? I've notice most people who collect records either go for 60's or 70's classic rock or modern indie/punk records. Does anyone collect old or new 'metal' records, either for value, rarity, album covers, or just to listen? I've also noticed a few modern bands like Cattle Decapitation that release all their albums on vinyl as well.
I have aselection of 70s and 80s albums all vinyl in g/c but covers damaged help? the albums are in good conditon but covers are damaged so i dont think they are good enoug to sell on ebay can anyone help
If you could redesign the album cover/art work for one of your favorite band's albums, which would it be? and how would it look? Inspired by Silver's answer to a question about album art and vinyls. Suppose you don't like one of your favorite band's album covers for any reason (it doesn't match the music, you think it's missing something, etc..), how would you modify its artwork (cover or sleeve or both)?
Album cover white with a black outline of a horse running? It's pretty simple looking. It was a vinyl record. Can anyone tell me what it was called?
Junk for art and stuff in houston texas? ahh, well, i really like trift shops and things like that and i wanted to decorate my room so i was wondering if there was any such thing as a junk shop or something like that that has a lot of random stuff i can maybe make some art or something, or a place with old albums (vinyl) so i can put awesome album covers on my wall or something basically anyplace that has vintage looking cool stuff or junk ahhh whereeee!? thats sounds awesomee

Just bought some vinyl from 1972. Band: Randall's Island. Album: rock and roll city. Know anything about them? Polydor release PD-5026. Album cover is signed on the back "Dear Bimbo, best wishes from Randall's island, Allen Herman." (drummer) Also contains same message on glossy band photo found inside by surprise. Garage sale find, worth anything? Record is flawless, jacket is a little worn with a small water stain.
How much is the rolling paper in Cheech and Chong Big Bamboo album worth? I have this album with the original rolling paper. The vinyl and the cover is not in good condition but the paper has not been touched (never been taken out of the sleeve). I was wondering how much the rolling paper is worth and were I would go to find a collector.
what is the value of a Foo Fighters vinyl that I have? Ok so I picked up an original Foo Fighters self titled vinyl the one with the ray gun on the front from 1995. It’s opened and there is some tape holding the cover together. And the vinyl itself is in ok condition. I also picked up a Nirvana Vinyl but it did not have its cover. It’s the Nevermind album and the record look in ok condition. Can someone tell me what they are worth? Help.
Are liner notes becoming extinct due to digital media? Are you an avid reader of liner notes found on vinyl albums and cd covers? These liner notes provide input as to what the band was thinking or experiencing while producing the album. Many thanks and credit given to persons who participated in the albums production. These liner notes are especially relevant when a particular album is considered a landmark or groundbreaking release. On the constant increase is the purchase of music through digital media sites via the internet. The transmission of the liner notes has been accommodated by the use of a digital booklet, which is included when the entire album is purchased. However, it is becoming increasingly apparent that fewer and fewer of these digital booklets are becoming available. The most common reason is the recording label is not supplying a digital version of the liner notes to the internet media distributor. Another, more insidious factor, is that some labels, quite sadly, are not even compiling liner notes in any fashion so as to facilitate the music release via a digital retailer. A recent glaring example is the recent re-release of R.E.M.'s "Murmur - Deluxe Version." Originally released in 1983 and played on college radio was a vast change from the punk, new wave, no wave that dominated that scene. Many consider "Murmur" as the birth of "alternative" rock. On the re-release of November 25, 2008 the cd contained liner notes and essays penned by producers Mitch Easter and Don Dixon, and several others insiders and record execs who witnessed the album’s creation. http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/atoz/2008/11/rem_murmur_review_cd_deluxe_edition_anniversary_25_bootleg_live_album.php The liner notes are NOT available when purchasing the album from I-tunes. What are your thoughts on liner notes? Are they important? What is the affect of the absence of liner notes? (kyle.) - Thanks for your comment and so true... Hi Persephone - you are very loyal. I have bought some songs off I-tunes. I am not going to say I will stop, but, I will be buying "Murmur" at the local cd shop. Wire and String - I agree, it's just as more of the classics are posted on digital media. Man, some of those classica GOTTA have the liner notes. :-( Shades - you are right. In searching for info will I get the specific info the band wanted to associate with an album? I thought it would be interesting to start a business where one translated album artwork and liner notes to a digital format. Kind of like close caption companies providing text for video, film, etc. Beatle Fanatic - You always make ALOT of sense, man. I really dig the way you collect the vinyl. I remember when I was younger and we stood around the record store bragging about how many "crates" of records we had. Soon after, my first car had a cassette player so I started buying cassettes. Silver - Exactly!!! That's what I am talking about. In re-releasing "Murmur" an extra effort was put forth to not only enhance the sound of the music but also to provide some well-researched investigative information the liner. Everyone was waiting to read about what was going on when the band created this unique album out of nowhere. For the liner notes to be missing is unthinkable!! ! Rekker - Right!!! You drove straight home ripped that plastic off played that recording and read the notes. Always!!!
where can i get the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album on vinyl format ? i heard that the original lp had gate fold cover with cutout moustaches and badges and they had a stereo and a slightly different mono mix.
Help! I can't remember the name of the restaurant!? I was in Chicago about a year and a half ago and my friends and I went to lunch with one of our friends aunts who lives there. She took us to this cool restaurant and I cannot for the life of me remember the name. I don't remember much about it either. All I remember was it wasn't right on Michigan Ave. It was American Cuisine. Mostly Burgers. The most distinctive thing I remember about it was it had a bit of a music decor going on. Like the menus were old vinyl album covers. I know its not much to go off of, but if you know the place let me know :) oh and please don't say the Hard Rock Cafe.
Record [Vinyl] Cover Cleaning? Ok i just bought a Michael Jackson "Thriller" album on vinyl. I got it at a pawn shop and the cover and a few stains on it. It looks kinda like dried frosting on it, lol. But its deffiantly not frosting or it would of come off when i licked my finger and rubbed it. lol. So i was wondering if there is some kind of homemade "potion" you can make to clean the cover. That is safe to use on it. Thanks so much! PS. im 13 so i cant really just hope in my car and buy alot of expensive cleaning stuff. thanks <33
Anyone know what old vinyl Christmas Album this is? My mother is looking for an old album she used to have of classic Christmas songs. She says it was a country styled album and believes the front of the record sleeve had a country-type winter picture. Two of the songs she is sure it had on there were: Wait for the Waggon and a song that goes something like: "on December 5 & 20" We think, but we're not sure if it would be the album: Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer by Tex Johnson and His Six Shooters... but this is the only info we could find on it: produced by Pirouette and has a pink label, has a light blue and silver cover, and is a 3D "stereophonic recording." Below are the songs in order: *Side A Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer When Santa Claus Gets Your Letter Fum Fum Fum Wait For The Wagon (On Christmas Day) I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day Cheyenne *Side B A Merry Christmas To You Pride Of The Prairie Mary The Night Before Christmas Song San Antonio Just As The Sun Went Down Go Tell It On The Mountain Can anyone give any insight on to what album she could be thinking of...or would this Tex Johnson album be it? (if it is, anyone know where we can find it?...I've heard it's on CD) Ok, I found out that this IS the record my mom was thinking of. However, the record was released under 2 different names on 2 different labels... The first one was: "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer," by: Tex Johnson and His Six Shooters (Pirouette label) and then it was re-released on vinyl as well, again under this name: "Western Christmas," by: Cactus Jim and the Wranglers (Diplomat label) I figure most people don't know that these two records are the same, considering everyone talks about their memories with the Tex Johnson album, while it is kinda hard to find...however, the Cactus Jim album is easier to find on places such as Ebay and Amazon in the $13-$40 range. ***Now my question is simply: Does anyone know where we can get either one of these albums (since they are the same) on CD or Cassette tape? I'd rather have it on one of those formats instead of vinyl (vinyl being the last resort)...CD being my top choice, but cassette is easier to transfer with better sound quality.
Do you miss album cover art? I used to sit with the album cover between crossed legs and stare at the cover while listening to magnificent vinyl discs rotate on my turntable. Sometimes, the cover gave me a clue as to what some of the lyrics really meant. Even the "white album" had those four pictures inside, and I would take them out and look at them and try to imagine what those people were thinking as they wrote that glorious music. Then came cassettes and then these miniaturized albums "cd's" and now, where has that part of the music experience gone? Do you miss album cover art as much as I do?
Where can I sell my late 1960's children's vinyl LP albums? I have about a dozen Walt Disney, Reader's Digest sets, Music from Doctor Dolittle and more that were favorites back in the 60's for small children. Baby Boomers might enjoy them. All in good condition with sleeves, covers and some have story pages inside. They are too precious for a yard sale or ebay. I'm looking for buyers of old vinyl lp's. Any ideas?
How do I turn a record sleeve into CD artwork? I am currently copying my vinyl onto CD; is there any way I can 'shrink' the record album cover to fit a CD case? I mean, I want the CD to have the same album cover as its vinyl counterpart. Thanks! How would I fit the album cover onto the scanner? It's wider than the scanner itself.
Is 1973 'Dylan' album worth anything? I have a vinyl copy with cover in excellent condition of the Bob Dylan compilation 'Dylan' released by his record company in 1973 when he fell out with them (or vice versa) and wouldn't do a studio album. It includes covers rejected for Self Portrait like Mr Bojangles and Big Yellow Taxi. Does it have any value to collectors - I wouldn't part with it as it is part of my complete vinyl collection of Dylan official recordings but for some reason I have two copies - someone must have bought it for me when I already had it, but you know that was a long time ago, long before the stars were torn down ...
Who still buys their albums on Vinyl Records.? Vinyl record sales went up loads in 2009, to the point that they were rivalling CDs for the first time in 22 years, this year, more people are using vinyl again. I love it, its that procedure of taking the big white paper cover out of the nicely decorated cardboard cover, and then taking the record out and putting on the turntable, unclipping the arm, and then flicking the switch to put the stylus on the record. I love it! In fact my "Some Girls - Rolling Stones" album needs turning now.
Should I buy magical mystery tour or Abbey road (Vinyl)? They have them on ebay. They are the 1st press ones. I'm torn between what one to get. I love these 2 albums. Abbey road is my favorite album but this is not for listening. I want to collect it. Magical mystery tour is my all time favorite album cover. What would you get?

What are the chances of vinyl records replacing CDs and MP3s? Is audio technology going backwards? Read the following article: June 26, 2008 10:11 AM PDT Making vinyl records the old-fashioned way Posted by Daniel Terdiman 4 comments At United Record Pressing in Nashville, Tenn., LPs are still made the old-fashioned way: with lots and lots of vinyl. This is a bin full of little vinyl pellets that will be melted into records. (Credit: Daniel Terdiman/CNET News.com) NASHVILLE, Tenn.--When people think of the Beatles coming to America, they usually conjure up images of The Ed Sullivan Show and screaming teenage girls chasing the Fab Four on the streets of New York. But here in Music City, there's something else to commemorate the earliest stages of the British Invasion: the fact that the first American Beatles 7-inch record was produced by United Record Pressing--then, as now, one of the largest makers of vinyl in the world. On Monday, as I swung through Nashville on Road Trip 2008, I was lucky enough to get to visit the production facilities of United Record Pressing here and get a firsthand look at how LPs are made. Before you scoff at the notion of making records, consider that over the last few years, the format has made a big comeback, with sales skyrocketing and turntables moving off store shelves like they haven't in years. Why? The reason is pure irony. According to Jay Millar, the marketing and sales manager for United Record Pressing, it has everything to do with the emergence of Apple's oh-so-ubiquitous MP3 player. "It really started picking up when iPods started coming onto the scene," Millar said. "Everything got so sterile with digital that people were not spending time" with the physical manifestation of their music. A record-pressing machine at United Record Pressing. The company is one of only three in the United States that still produces LPs in any meaningful amounts. (Credit: Daniel Terdiman/CNET News.com) In other words, as iPods began to dominate the music world, people were leaving their CDs on the shelves, and iTunes downloads, as well as those via file-sharing services, took over. But for audiophiles used to actually handling some sort of disc, this change has led to a reversal of fortune for the LP, a format long thought to have gone the way of the floppy disk. For a company like United Record Pressing, that's been great news, as its sales have been going up steadily as more and more artists turn to records as a way to get their music into the hands of people who care about it. So how is a record made? First, a separate company with facilities nearby takes the original recording--which can come in the form of an audio tape, but (audiophiles, cover your eyes here) more often comes on CDs since many artists are using software like ProTools to cut their tracks--and uses it to cut the familiar circular grooves into an object called a lacquer. The lacquer is then delivered to United Record Pressing, which begins the process of actually making the LPs. First, the lacquer is sprayed with a layer of silver, which, after it sets, is then peeled off. The resulting sheet is known as the master, and it is the opposite of a record, because it has ridges rather than grooves. The master is then used to make what is known as the mother, a metal version of the record that can, itself, actually be played. At United Record Pressing, black is not the only color of vinyl that is used. There's also red, orange, blue, gray, and even a mixture made from the cuttings of the other colors. (Credit: Daniel Terdiman/CNET News.com) The mother is then pressed into what is known as the stamper, and this, too, has ridges. The stamper actually is the basis of every record that comes out of this factory. At this point, it's all about raw vinyl, millions of little chunks of the material that resemble Pop Rocks. And it's not just black either. The company also makes records that are red, orange, blue, and gray. Sometimes, it takes all the discarded vinyl from several pressings and mixes them together into a kind of hodgepodge color. First, the vinyl is melted down into what is called the biscuit. This is the center of the record, the round part with no grooves and the little hole. To this is added the label, which is pressed onto the biscuit, a step that doesn't require any adhesive. Rather, the biscuit is so hot from the vinyl being melted down that the label sticks right on. The labels, which are printed here by the thousands, are actually baked in a special oven so that they retain no moisture, something that could cause bubbling on the actual record. To ensure that labels don't bubble up after being pressed onto a record, the labels are baked in an oven to remove any moisture. (Credit: Daniel Terdiman/CNET News.com) Then, the biscuit is placed in the middle of a machine and then it is joined together with a fresh supply of vinyl, and together they are smashed between a plate and the stamper. A blade then shears off the excess vinyl, and voila! A brand new record slides out of the machine and onto a rack. When all is said and done, it's actually a remarkably simply process. But there's still much more that must happen before an LP leaves the facility. First, at least one of each new album run must be tested. So on one side of a room that long ago was used as a room for record release and signing parties--Hank Williams Jr. had a party thrown for him here when he was 16, Millar said--a woman is sitting and bobbing her head as she listens to songs on headphones, making sure the new record has no problems. If it does, United Record Pressing will have to tell the record company what the issue is. There's also the small matter of putting the records in their sleeves--something I saw two people tucked away in a corner of one room doing. They had their process down pat: grab an LP, inspect it quickly for obvious defects, pick up a sleeve, slide in the record, repeat. Click for gallery Millar showed me a room in the basement of the building that contained thousands and thousands of folders--really, they seemed like extra-thick album covers with no art--that contain the masters of every record the company has produced over the years. This is a treasure trove bar none, since United Record Pressing works with pretty much every major label you can imagine. Inside each folder is the master, and a full set of all the associated materials: the master, a label, an album jacket, and anything else that might be included, such as liner notes. And these days, as with an Elvis Costello album Millar showed me, the folders may also hold an insert with information for a digital download of the album. In fact, it is these digital downloads that may be heralding the re-emergence of the LP and the death of the CD. That's because many artists are now offering record buyers a one-time free download of all the tracks on the album as a bonus. This is still a small enough phenomenon, of course, to barely register on Apple's radar. iTunes is safe, in other words. Still, for audiophiles who used to buy CDs, this gives them a way to have a physical disc to listen to the music on, as well as a way to easily tote it with them. "People don't need their discs to be compact anymore," said Millar, "because you can't get much more compact than MP3. So it's back to the big discs." * 10 hours ago * - 3 days left to answer.
What are the chances of vinyl records making a comeback and replacing CDs and MP3s? Is audio technology....? Returning to the past? I got the following article off CNET.com. June 26, 2008 10:11 AM PDT Making vinyl records the old-fashioned way Posted by Daniel Terdiman 4 comments At United Record Pressing in Nashville, Tenn., LPs are still made the old-fashioned way: with lots and lots of vinyl. Led Zeppelin III Album Cover - Who is it? OK this is a long shot, I don't know if any of you have a copy of the vinyl and know this... If you spin the wheel around so that Robert Plant's face is on the big right hand circle, look directly left of it to the circle at the bottom of the Z in Zeppelin. There's a guy playing some sort of acoustic fish shaped instrument with a star on it. And he looks a HELL of a lot like David Gilmour. I have my doubts though... I don't think it IS him, but if it is, what the hell is he doing on that album cover? And if it isn't, then who could it be? Good luck... That's strange Gtarczar, it doesn't really look like him at first glance but then when I look more closely I can kind of see it is, I guess the weird angle and shadows and his hair there make him look different. Seriously... I can't believe it didn't cross my mind that it could be JPJ, I suppose cos I had my mind set on Gilmour and I was so confused about it, I didn't really think!! Thanks =D
SURVEY - Was the SPECTRES by BOC Album Cover, Ever Changed? . I'm probably hallucinating, but I seem to remember a Different cover, when I saw this is Vinyl Form. Maybe I'm thinking of the Single "GODZILLA" ?? Anyone with info - Please let me know if I have Brain Damage :)) Here is the Current CD Cover -- http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/25/BlueOysterCultSpectres.jpg .
Have you ever bought an album solely for the artwork and the fact...? that the band looks interesting without ever hearing of them before? I picked up some vinyls today and came across a band called Starcastle. The album cover was captivating so I thought what the hell..all I know is they are a progressive band from the 70's. If anyone has ever heard of them let me know. Darth-yup that's the one! I am looking forward to listening to it now :)
Are 60's and 70's rock record albums (vinyl) likely to increase in value in years to come? I have 100's of rock albums from the 60's and 70's (some 80's). Many of them are very desirable and in pristine condition - both the record and the covers. With the popularity of downloading music will record albums have any value in years to come? Are they worth holding onto?
Which of these beatles albums is more rare / expensive? I have two copies of The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. One was printed in the United States in 1976, and both sides of the vinyl are printed: one has the album cover image and the other has the bass drum that says "Sgt. Pepper's...". The box has a transparent hole that lets the vinyl show. The album is stereo. The other LP was printed in Colombia in the mid 80s I think and it has a cardboard box that opens, with the original album art, and it's mono. Which of these two albums is more rare or expensive? Thanks. Which one would be the most sought after for collectors?
Which item should I ask a band to autograph: a vinyl record cover, or an 8x10 print of a photo I took? This very-famous band (who shall remain nameless) is known for meeting with fans before and/or after their shows, signing stuff, etc. I have a few vinyls of their albums, and I also have some halfway decent (but not spectacular) 8x10 photos that I took at a concert on their last tour. Which would you rather have autographed, vinyls or photos? Either way they'll be framed and hung on my wall. Thanks! I'll address a couple points that have come up in the answers. First, there is about a 0.001% chance that I'd ever sell this. I've been a huge fan since adolescence. Second, I probably won't ask for them to sign both. I'd feel greedy doing that!
Rain Forrest's, helping the planet etc. etc.? Why doesn't Bono, Bob Geldorf and Sting buy a third world country and fill it full of trees. Considering that most of their money was made selling records on "Vinyl" in hugh album covers and flying everywhere by private jet. Further more Phil Collins "Another Day In Paradise" what a hypocrite, why do these people keep banging on about it when they have the Money, Media & Time to solve this problem more than us lesser mortals whose pockets are not as deep as theirs
Do music really sound better on vinyl or is it something else??.? Maybe the music doesn't sound better but its the whole lifestyle of being a vinyl owner. You know i mean?? The trips to the record store and finding that album you've have been looking for forever. Putting the record carefully on the turntable and cleaning it. The smell of the old cover. That warm sensation of your favorite songs. Tell me what you think Man I need to be a writer for a music magazine
Does anybody use album jackets as decoration? this is more of a poll than my usual philosophical questions, but i saw a video of this guy on youtube who had the cover for houses of the holy hanging up on his wall. i thought that was a really neat idea, since zeppelin tended to use both ends of the packaging for a picture, so i want to do something similar. yet at the same time, i dont want to give up having a case for my vinyl. so what do i do? rest it on some nails? does anybody else do stuff like this?
What Was So Controversial about the Original Cover of "The White Album" ? . I have a Vinyl Copy of The Beatles, "White Album" - received as a Gift in the late-1980s, but there are no pictures in it I heard that when it was First Released as "The Beatles" - and the Original Cover was BANNED -- That Inside -- The Original Cover was Included on Paper. A. -- What did it Look Like -- Was it Really That Controversial ?? B. -- How different would the World be -- If the Pics were Allowed ?? C. -- Would we have taken a "Quantum-Branch" that never knew reference "The White Album." D. Would Metallica's Album NickName, "The Black Album" have made sense ?? E. -- Ignore Questions, "B., C. & D" :)) btw -- The Damned had "fun" with The Beatles, by naming there 1980 Double-Album, "The Black Album" Unfortunately, I guess Metallica will be remembered for it !! . . . No, "Fonzie" -- I'm clear on this. The "Butcher Cover" was the Original for the Domesic "Yesterday & Today" where they Sat oh Travelling Trunks. . . Thanks, "fëär & Music Lover ïn vëgäs" I know it was a Montage of Photos -- obviously there was an Obscene photo -- Which Weird considering they allowed the "Two Virgins" cover. . . I would thing that 40 Years Later -- The original Cover would be Available, somewhere on the Internet. It HAS to be Tamer, than the "Evening News" -- Don't you think ?? . . LOL, "Wire & String" !! Jay-Z and a few others, before Metallica -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Black_Album . . "martin" & "uncle dodge" -- Okay -- could the Traditional Story passed down to me -- was Flawed. I did notice in Wiki Article -- "The album's inside packaging included a poster" Does anyone know where I can "see" this Poster ? thanks for all your Responses :) . . I'm beginning to Wonder if what I heard was similar to an "Urban Legend" i.e. -- The album had to changed to White, because of Risque photos ? Revisionist History is a Landmark of Americans LOL !! . ...and I'm not thinking of the Butcher Cover !! I got a handle on that LOL :)) Maybe it was that last hit of LS-Crazy in high school ?? .
Has anyone got a line on a particular Clapton double album? Details follow.? The vinyl editon double album had tons of photos. More to the point, the songs included some live stuff with Delaney and Bonnie....in particular, "You're My Girl"....and "Don't Want to Discuss It"......// "Teasin'" was another unusual track. Also "Spoonful"......also "Tribute to Elmore".......the well known live "Crossroads" track....others I cannot recall easily. The original cover had a centered photo of him (from chest up) sporting long dark hair, mustache and beard and playing guitar. I did a search on this once before, and it seems there's all kinds of copyright trouble. One place offered a bootleg for over a hundred dollars. Thanks.
Comedy on Vinyl 1960/70's North England.? Can anyone tell me who the man was who was a comedian and did comedy acts in front of an audience possibly working men's clubs and his shows were put onto vinyl. Comedy was all about working class life. He could be from Sheffield or Yorkshire, North England. The covers of the albums were black and white and some of them had chimneys on them. 12 " albums. You can hear the audience laughing in the background as it is live. He may have been called Fred but not sure. Thanks for your help. Been racking my brain for ages now.
Ideas for large prints to go on wall? I want to paint my room lime green. Then I want to put huge (like 4'x4') prints of the covers of the albums of my favorite songs collage style on it. Any suggestions on how to cost-effectively get these prints? Originally I was thinking vinyl, but since it's inside, i guess laminated paper might work.
What album is this cover art from? It is a jazz or soul album I think..? http://www.amazon.com/Touch-Your-Groove-Musician-Vinyl/dp/B000ZJUEGQ/ref=pd_ybh_1?pf_rd_p=280800601&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1501&pf_rd_i=ybh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0P9MMNEPHF0KE3DNJP6W I'm looking at the main girl in the picture. I want to know the specific album name pleeease....
Looking for a song from late 80's early 90's.? The reason I can not find it is because I can't remember much of it. (I had a stroke) Any way, it was a red cover for the vinyl and I remember it having something to do with the USSR or something. It was a very popular dance hit for awhile and all I can remember is the album cover and none of the words. :( If anyone can help that would be so awesome!!
Beatles 1995 Limited Edition Capitol LP Pressings - How Do They Sound? Hi, Around the time of the Beatles Anthology in 1995, Capitol Records issued all the Beatles albums on "limited edition" vinyl. A black sticker stating "limited edition" was on the cover. My question is, how do these pressings sound? Are they merely the CDs pressed to vinyl or do they resemble the sound of pre-CD Beatle pressings? Thanks!
Which album does Bob try to save ? In the movie, the boat that rocked, sleepy Bob tries to save his box of vinyl records as the boat sinks. He has to settle for saving just one and I recognised the cover but couldn't put the title to it.
Does the terminal decline of Compact Disc sales spell the end for the 'concept album' as we know it? The LP came along in the late 1940s, and it was then that we saw the first true 'albums', that is, a collection of songs or pieces by an artist that the artist wanted us to hear in a certain order. The first album may have been Frank Sinatra's In the Wee Small Hours. Soon every artist was releasing Long Play albums with anywhere from 6 to 22 songs. After vinyl records came cassettes, and soon after that Compact Discs. (CDs) In the past ten years sales of CDs have done nothing but decline. Now people can download music (whether legally or illegally) The music now comes from a totally software based origin. There is no permanent hard copy to carry around or store. Does this mean that we will see the end of the album as we know it? Will we have mostly singles in the absence of CD sales? Without a hard copy to sell there will be less emphasis on covers and artwork, as well as the idea of the 'concept album' where the songs are in a certain order. What are your thoughts on this?
CD sales have dropped steadily for over a decade. Does this mean the end of 'the album' or 'LP' as we know it? Without a hard copy to sell there will be less emphasis on covers and artwork, as well as the idea of the 'concept album' where the songs are in a certain order. What are your thoughts on this? The idea of the album, or program or song or pieces continued to flourish with CDs. But with no real 'hard copy' manufactured and sold, this makes for a potentially different approach to things. You don't have space to fill, or to be limited by.
what album goes along with this album artwork? At a pawn shop in California, there was this LP (vinyl) with this weird looking cover art with a farm + the sun looking over it with a weird smile on its face; the main color was orange (kind of a dark orange...); does anyone have any idea what I could be referring to? I never saw it again, so maybe it's not on CD...anyway ,thanx
What is a 21 Jumpstreet vinyl record worth? It has a "Promotional Use Only" marking pressed into it on the back. It has never been played . The cover art has the cast laughing and acting playful. I won the thing finishing 2nd place in a dance contest back in the 80's. (The winners got Winger albums!) I have looked around and can't seem to find another one nor the value of it based on recent sales.

Posters inside Twilight album? Ok. I am visiting my sister and she gave me the Twilight soundtrack on vinyl for my birthday. I don't want to unwrap it until i get home. I noticed on the cover it says there are three posters inside. Can anyone who also bought this tell me what the posters inside look like?
Has technology made music more impersonal? What happened to going to a friends house after school and checking out his or his older brother's record collection. Sitting in front of the record player listening to Aerosmith while checking out the album covers. Checking out the marketing gimmicks on some of the album covers like opening the windows on Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, or the flimsy vinyl used on "The Worst Of Jefferson Airplane." In the past album covers were art. Also, the sound quality on albums wwasn't perfect, with the random pops and static sounds but that gave it a special nuance. Now we live in the world of perfect sounding music played on a personal player for 1 person to listen to.Instead of a group of people listening to music together and asking what they think of the band or song, now you just hand your earphones off to your friend while he/she listens to the song. Instead of album covers you can hold in your hand, youre either looking at them on a computer screen or squinting to see it on an ipod screen. With music alot more accessible today, gone is the excitement of running home to listen to the new album you bought, gone are the independent record stores with all the band posters hanging on the wwalls smelling like incense, flipping through albums with your friends, Now you can listen to music anywhere and if you need some new songs you just log on to your computer and download it. So my question is, do you think technology made music more impersonal ?
MCR fans! =] I think the guys are getting ready to record their new album VERY soon!...? Okay, so if you're like me, a complete My Chem dweeb, I think you all may have picked up a few hints... if not, well I think you would have still.. But now, I think it's VERY close to when they start recording... Why? Well, for one, Gerard just said (via twitter, which I am loving) that he's heading to a recording studio... That was at 3pm Eastern today, and I'm guessing he's in NJ by now... So I mean, besides that, they've all been like "oh yeah, we're gonna start after the new year." In all those interviews with Mikey and Gerard and Frank, I mean. =] So honestly, I think in the next 2 or 3 weeks, they're gonna start writing.. maybe after the "Desolation Row" cover release.. I feel like a dork because I think I'm spitting out info you all know. Hahah Oh! And the actualy Watchmen movie is coming out on time--which is a big woohoo because the trailer is just wow-- which also means the cover is being released on time. Oh. Crap. Wait. I just realized... The LeATHERMOUTH album... hmm.. maybe they're getting together after Frank and the dudes get that out. LeATHERMOUTH is annoying to write. Okay, I feel like a dork. Mahahha. What do you guys think!? (About when they're gonna start recording, the movie, cold weather, etc. etc.) Oh-- and for everyone who wanted to buy the Bullets vinyl, it's sold out =[.... but I'm sure it'll come back one time or another. Poll: Do you like LeATHERMOUTH? In my opinion, they're a little too hardcore for me, but I think it's worth the money. Hahah PS: If you don't like MCR, that's okay! We all have opinons.... but please respect that some people do! Thanks =] PSS: Is there anything I missed? Bahahah, I feel like such a loser. XD Okay, I just found this out from the MCRmy forums: eatsomemore Team Member Location: Indianapolis, IN, US 01/17/09 4:11PM they are in the studio =] my brother is going into the recording buisness and he has some friends at some studios, and they apparently started pre-preoduction a couple days before new years. atleast thats what his friends said... woo! =]

Question about Beatles vinyl records? How come they're priced so differently? At a local flea market, there's a "Meet the Beatles" record, unplayable, with Ringo's suit scratched off the cover for $98. But at a local record store, my sister found a mint condition "Sgt. Peppers" album for $5. And I bought an "Abbey Road" album for $17 never been opened, still in it's plastic. It had a barcode on it so I'm guessing it's a reprint, do they make vinyls anymore? If so, how can I tell one that was released in the 60s from one that was made yesterday and the seller is just trying to rip me off? I just realized I put the wrong record, they're selling a "Introducing the Beatles, Englands Number One Group" record for $98, that's the one with Ringo's suit scratched off. Their "Meet the Bealtes" record is $75 and they have the "Love me Do" single for $35. I knew that seller was a rip-off artsit because they were selling one song for $35! But I'm finding rip-off artists all over the place.
Hail - He Said? I have a vinyl album which has 'Hail ~ He Said' on the front cover. It was released in 1986 and Brian Eno co-wrote & performed on one of the tracks. However, I've no idea whether the group is called 'Hail' or 'He Said'. Would really like to find out about the band and if they recorded anything else. Has anybody else even heard of them?
issue with buyer on ebay? i sold an lp (a vinyl album) on ebay and the item went for $39 ($45 with shipping.) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&item=260290449692 i was not aware of any damage to the lp. well the man who bought it became angry due to slow shipping (not my fault) and then he got pissed and said it wasn't "as the condition described." he claimed that there was a large scratch through the 1st and 2nd tracks. i don't want him to ruin my feedback (i only have 18) but in my listing i put "no return accepted." the man wants the entire refund, including the shipping both ways. i don't think i should allow it because its not my fault the item was damaged. it could have happened during shipping and he didn't purchase shipping insurance (which covers items being damaged during shipping.) what should i do?? is he entitled to a refund or is it just his loss??
Which Flaming Lips album has a skull with eggs for eyes on the cover? it's on vinyl It's on vinyl and it isn't Oh my gawd
if you could own something cool or innovative from the past, what would it be? Here's mine.. An RCA CT-100 "Merrill" color television, the first mass-produced for the everyman color TV set. The CT-100 made its debut in 1954, and there are some working sets that have been restored. An original Ford Mustang! An old Sears Silvertone portable stereo like I got for Christmas when I was ten years old.... "Jesus Christ Superstar", original London cast recording, on VINYL rather than CD(the original album had a cool cover and a lyric book that came with it!) A Plymouth 'Superbird' muscle car(like the one that's in the new "Cars" movie) An RCA TK-41 color television camera, the first color TV camera widely used here in the USA An original Atari 2600 video game console, the first videogame system I ever owned!
